Hanley Farm Shop

Hanley and Severndale Farms are situated in the beautiful countryside between the Wye Valley (officially recognised as an AONB – Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the Forest of Dean, overlooking the River Severn estuary, 2.5 miles north of Chepstow and adjacent to the A48.

In 1956 Bill and Kath Edwards moved just 1 mile ‘down the hill’ to build Severndale Farm on a green field site and, at that time, the farm had just 76 acres and 30 dairy cows.

The business expanded in 1972 with the purchase of Hanley Farm and in 1984 Lyndon Edwards took over the running of the farm at the age of just 21, following the untimely death of his Father Bill.

Further development took place in 1999 when the farm started to be farmed organically and today we farm over 600 acres with over 240 prize winning pedigree milking cows and 100 cross bred Angus and Hereford Cattle.

Our philosophy is for our animals to be free range, grazing lush organic pastures, supplemented by traditional home-grown crops which include hay, silage, lucerne, maize, barley, peas, and kale.

The milking herd also enjoy luxury accommodation during the winter months with beautiful views across the River Severn.

Hanley Farm diversification started in 2006 with the building of a veterinary centre, followed in 2008 by a business centre with 14 individual offices of various sizes. Our dream of the local community sharing their passion for growing their own produce became a reality in 2011 with the development of a two-acre land-share scheme which now supplies our Farm Shop with some of its fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers

In 2013 we painstakingly and sympathetically renovated and extended a disused barn and former 18th Century coach house building on the farm, fitted it out professionally with chiller cabinets and air conditioning and in August of that year opened Hanley Farm Shop.

The Farm Shop is fully licensed and has its own in-house Butchery, Deli and Café. Everything we sell is sourced locally wherever possible.

Since opening we have received numerous awards for our food, including 4 Great Taste Awards.

In 2014 we received the Wye Valley AONB Farmer Award and were runners up for the Sustainable Farmer of the Year in the National Farming Awards.

In 2016 we won the prestigious Small Farm Shop of the Year Award.
