Ragmans Farm market garden is run by Becky and Craig, two wandering gardeners who have made the Forest their home. They grow organic fruit, veg and flowers, specialising in mixed leaf salad. Certified by the Soil Association Craig and Becky endeavor to give more than they take from the land by utilising green manures, woodchip, home made compost and compost teas. Their minimum tillage and addition of organic matter and compost teas promote healthy mycellial and microbial growth, which aid the storage and uptake of elements essential for plant health, growth and nutritional value. Parts of the market garden are left wild to provide habitat for wildlife and flowers are grown in the borders to provide nectar for pollinators and seeds for birds. This ensures a healthy amount of predators to help keep pests at bay in a system they like to consider “beyond organic”.
